A personal umbrella policy adds one to five million dollars of liability over your auto and home policies for a surprisingly small premium. If you have teenage drivers, a pool, a boat or rental property, it is the most important coverage you may not have yet.
Boat policies are seasonal on Long Island. Ask about lay-up periods, agreed value versus actual cash value, and towing on the water before you launch this spring.
Common questions
Does my homeowners policy cover my boat?
Only very small boats, and only with limited liability. Anything with a motor should carry its own policy with liability, physical damage and towing.
How much does an umbrella policy cost?
A one million dollar umbrella often costs a few hundred dollars a year. The carrier will usually require specific minimum limits on your underlying auto and home policies, which we will check for you.
